Thursday evening the Montpelier School Board accepted and acknowledged numerous monetary donations with the largest of them being the Jason Saneholtz Memorials of $19,142.  Jason, who had passed away as a result of an accident, had been the golf coach for the Montpelier golf team. A golf simulator will be purchased with the donations as a memorial. The Athletic Boosters made donations of $3,716.77 to the girls’ basketball program, $1,655.80 to the boys’ basketball program, $150 to the volleyball program, and $105.41 to the golf team. Scout David Williams chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, met on Nov. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at ArtSpace, Montpelier. Seven members were present, along with guest, Beatrix Baratier. Hostesses for the meeting were Marge Gearig and Rachel Donohue. The afternoon slide show program was given by David Baratier, Husband of DAR, on the Williams County Arts Council (WCAC), of which he is Vice President. PFC Korbin N. Castillo graduated boot camp on November 1, 2012 from Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. Korbin graduated from Montpelier high school 2010 and was class valedictorian, Korbin also attended University of Findlay 2010/2011 on scholarship as well as Ohio State University 2011 before entering the Army in August 2012. Korbin is currently serving at Fort Lee in Virgina for ordinance training until approximately August 1, 2013.

Edon Branch Library is adding a new program to complement home school curriculums. These Homeschooling Extras start on Wednesday, November 28. The Primary Level will meet at 1:00 pm and the Secondary Level will meet at 1:30 pm. Initially, the groups will be meeting weekly, but that may change depending on what works with everyone’s schedules. Golda N. Boyer, formally of Archbold, Ohio, passed away early November 5, 2012, at the Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Napoleon. She was born December 21, 1928, in Harrison Township, Henry County Ohio, the daughter of William L. and Elfie S. (Wilford) Naveau. Golda graduated from Fulton Centralized School, Fulton, County in 1946 and from Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, in 1954.  She taught high school business courses at Jewell School, Defiance County, for 9 years and Pettisville High School, Fulton County, for 21 years. Jane Ann Stuckey, age 78, of rural Bryan, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice. Prior to her retirement in 1996 she had worked for Health and Human Services in Bryan for 20 years. Jane was born in Fulton County, Ohio on January 14, 1934, the daughter of Earl and Helen (Leupp) Ruffer. On December 20, 1953 she married William “Bill” Stuckey, and he survives. Presented last Council meeting as a request from WEDCO, West Unity Village Council passed a resolution at their Thursday, November 08, 2012 meeting approving a Community Reinvestment Area Tax Exemption application submitted by Rupp & Roach, Ltd. The exemption is for the addition of 2200 square feet of office space to their building at 600 Oak Street in West Unity. According to WEDCO’s Diamond Zimmerman at the October 25th meeting of Council, the tax savings to the company would be about $3,200 per year which would add up to about $48,000 over the 15-year life of the exemption. Rosemary Peerboom 95 of Montpelier, chose to do Hair in the Heavens, Wednesday afternoon.  She was born on August 22, 1917 in Detroit Michigan.  Rosemary graduated from the Delmar School of Cosmetology in Detroit in 1936.  She lived at Little Long Lake in Camden Michigan for 40 years before moving to Montpelier in 1987. Rosemary loved to travel, including visits to Denmark, Belgium, Germany and Austria. Rosemary was a cosmetologist for over 70 years retiring in 2006.  In that time, she owned and operated Rosemary’s Beauty Shop on Little Long Lake and the Bronze Door in Montpelier.  She was a…

Every year Fayette FFA offers a Dairy Foods contest for the members to participate in. In this contest, members tasted different cheese, milks, and learn how to determine if a cow has Mastitis. Members that participated in the dairy foods contest this year were: Cady Stockburger, Allison Cuff, Noelle Goodson, Patty Hookstadt, Miranda Minzey, Alexis Fruchey, Emilie Keiser, and Jessie Wheeler. Stryker wrestling was at its zenith in the seventies and eighties under Coach Ralph Snyder and his assistant Ted Fisher (who took over as Head Coach in 1985 when Snyder retired). Before winning a league title in 1981, Stryker sent several wrestlers to state including Tom Frank in 1972, Ron Chappuis in 1977, and Ruben Martinez was State Runner-Up in 1977. With a 69.95% voter turnout, Williams County filled positions at the county-wide level. Three races – County Prosecutor, County Sheriff and County Treasurer – were contested. Running for Williams County Prosecutor, Kirk Yosick defeated Lora Manon to win the position. Yosick took just under 65% of the popular vote while Manon received just over 35%. More closely contested was the race for Williams County Sheriff between Steve Towns and Dan Hughes. Towns won, receiving 59.34% of the popular vote to Hughes’ 40.66%. Tuesday, November 6, 2012, only two races in Fulton County were contested. While important to the county, the races took a backseat to the hotly contested presidential campaigns of President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. While Romney prevailed in Fulton County, statewide and nationwide President Obama came out the victor, winning a second term in office. The new pavilion at the Main Street Park, on the site where Montpelier’s High School once stood, was dedicated during a ceremony on November 5, 2012. The pavilion is truly a jewel and a wonderful addition to the village.
